How big is it really?
Small. 13.36 cm / 5.25 in tall, 10.58 cm / 4.16 in wide and 1.60 cm / 0.63 in deep — It fits comfortably in an open palm. Hold a bank card up: the frame is roughly one and a half cards tall.
Can it hang on a wall, or does it only stand?
Both, and nothing needs adding. There is a moulded bracket on the back for a picture hook — at 108 g a single pin or self-adhesive hook is plenty, no plugs or screws required — and a small fold-out kickstand for standing it on a shelf, desk or mantelpiece. You can switch between the two whenever you like.
Is it a real painting?
No, and we would rather be plain about it. It is a print with a canvas weave texture on a rigid board backing, not a hand-painted canvas, and the frame is a moulding rather than carved wood. Up close you can tell; from a metre away you cannot. At this price a hand-painted miniature in a carved frame would be impossible, and pretending otherwise would be silly.
What is the picture, exactly?
A parody of Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring — the 1665 painting, long out of copyright — restaged with the sitter pinching her nose and scowling. Same blue and gold headwrap, same pearl, same ochre jacket and dark ground; entirely different opinion of whoever is standing in front of her. It is one design; there are no alternative pictures.
Can it go in a kitchen or bathroom?
Yes, with a little sense. A shelf in a bathroom or a kitchen wall is fine for something this size, but keep it out of direct steam and off the splash zone beside a sink or hob — water sitting on the edge where the print meets the board is what causes lifting over time. Also keep it out of long direct sunlight, since the warm ochres fade first.
Will mine look exactly like the photographs?
The artwork, frame profile and dimensions will — it is a printed panel, so the image is consistent from piece to piece. Slight variation in how the print sits in the frame aperture, faint mould lines on the back of the frame and small differences in the matte black sheen are normal at this price.
