Overview

You didn't mean to read email at 2am. You only wanted the time — but the phone was the nearest clock, and the phone had other plans. Globe™ ends that loop. A 9 cm painted-metal sphere behind domed glass, hung in a slim brass-tone ring so the head tilts to meet your eye from the pillow instead of making you sit up. The movement is silent, so the room stays as quiet as you left it. The hands carry a luminous finish, so at 2am you glance, you read, you turn over — and the screen stays in the other room.

Care

Wipe the painted metal with a soft dry cloth; use a barely damp cloth for marks and dry it straight away. Keep solvents and abrasive cleaners away from the brass-tone finish and the glass lens. Remove the battery if you're storing it for a season.

Materials

Painted metal sphere with a domed glass lens, brass-tone baton markers and hands, pivoting in a polished brass-tone yoke on a flat oval wire base. Silent quartz movement with luminous hands. Battery powered — battery not included. Size: 9 cm wide × 10.5 cm tall × 7 cm deep (3.54 × 4.13 × 2.75 in); weight approx. 250 g.

Globe alarm clock on an oak nightstand beside linen bedding

Small enough to disappear

Ten and a half centimetres tall in its brass-tone ring. It takes the corner of a nightstand and leaves the rest to the lamp, the book and the glass of water.

Angle it, don't sit up

The globe turns in its yoke, so the face meets your eye from where your head already is. A small thing that removes the one movement that wakes you all the way up.

The tilt is the whole point

I sleep low on one pillow and every clock I've owned pointed at the ceiling. I angled this one once and haven't touched it since. I can read it at 4am without lifting my head off the pillow.

Finally, actual silence

My last bedside clock ticked and I only ever noticed on the nights I couldn't sleep, which is exactly when it mattered. This one makes no sound at all. The sage is softer in person than on screen.

The phone lives in the hallway now

I bought it as the one thing I needed before I could move the phone charger out of the bedroom. Six weeks in and the phone hasn't come back. Small object, disproportionate effect.

Frequently asked questions

How big is it really?
9 cm wide, 10.5 cm tall including the ring base, and 7 cm deep (3.54 × 4.13 × 2.75 in) — about the size of a large apple sitting in a small brass hoop. It's deliberately small.
Does it tick?
No. It runs a silent quartz movement, so there's no second-hand click — the sound you only notice on the nights you're already awake.
Can I read it in the dark?
The hands carry a luminous finish that holds a soft glow after the lights go out. It's enough for a glance, not enough to light the room — which is the point.
Does the head really move?
Yes. The sphere pivots in the brass-tone yoke, so you can tilt the face down toward a pillow or up toward a standing eye-line, and it stays where you put it.
What powers it?
A battery, not included. No cable and no charging, so it can sit anywhere — including a shelf nowhere near a socket.
What Color Fit?
Sage is a soft muted green that settles in with oak, linen and plaster. With Brass-tone hands, markers and ring stand.
